Heatwave Alert India 2026: IMD Warns of Severe Heat in April-May | Temperatures Cross 45°C in Multiple States"

"As April 2026 ends, India is experiencing an unusually intense and early heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Union Health Ministry have issued nationwide alerts warning of above-normal heatwave days from April to June 2026.

Affected Regions Right Now (as of 29 April 2026):

  • Northwest India: Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP
  • Central India: Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh
  • Parts of Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha also under watch

With many cities recording 43–47°C and warm nights, the risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion is very high, especially for outdoor workers, children, and senior citizens.

Key Precautions:

  • Keep your home cool and well-ventilated
  • Schedule outdoor work before 10 AM or after 4 PM
  • Monitor for signs of heat-related illness (dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat)
  • Support local heat action plans in your city

This early heatwave serves as a reminder of changing climate patterns. Stay updated with official IMD alerts and take every precaution possible.

"India is burning! 🌡️ The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts across multiple states as temperatures soar past 40–47°C in late April 2026.

Current Hotspots:

  • Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab recording 43–47°C
  • Central India (MP, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh) under severe heat
  • Gujarat also feeling the impact with above-normal temperatures

Why it's alarming: India currently dominates global heat charts with 95 of the world’s 100 hottest cities. Warm nights are adding to the discomfort with no relief even after sunset.

Heatwave Safety Tips (Must Follow):

  • Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water & ORS
  • Avoid direct sun exposure between 12 PM – 4 PM
  • Wear light cotton clothes & use umbrella/cap
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
  • Check on elderly & vulnerable family members
